Giant Trees

I can’t remember exactly where we were when we stopped at this rest stop.  We were taking a day trip down the coast from Mendocino, California, so it was somewhere between Mendocino & Gualala.

Guest House Gardens

It is worth stopping by the Guest House Museum when you are in Fort Bragg, California.  Even if you don’t take the tour of the house, the grounds are beautiful to walk around.  There are many flowers, trees & plants to see.  The town is also very quaint with many old buildings.  Many are colorfully painted & help brighten up the foggy days.

Path to the Guest House

On the walkway to the museum, you go past this historical monument.  Fort Bragg, California was originally a military outpost.

Guest House Museum

We wanted to take the tour of this museum, but it was not open when we were there.  The outside was pretty with lots of well tended plants, trees & flowers.  The Skunk Train, a local sightseeing train, was located at the rear of this museum

Downtown Clock

It was foggy almost the whole time we were in the Mendocino area.  This day was no exception.  In front of the Guest House Museum in Ft. Bragg, California you will find this clock.

A Gigantic Slice Of Wood

This is from the largest redwood tree known to have grown in Mendocino County.  At least that’s what the plaque says.

Franklin's Gull on Padre Island, Texas

This type of gull is much less annoying than the California gulls we are used to.

Padre Island National Seashore

I am originally from Florida and have also lived in California on the coast.  This was a much more violent surf than I am used to unless there was a storm coming.  The water was constantly churning.  It was beautiful, but  not safe to enter.  Several people were parked on the beach just watching the surf and all the birds.
